- \ENicePrint\F is a program that prints
- out near-daisy-wheel quality characters on
- graphics printers. Its greatest beauty is
- that in normal use, you use the printer in
- exactly the same way as before, except that
- near-letter-quality characters are printed
- instead of ordinary dot-matrix characters.
- \ENicePrint\F loads underneath DOS, becoming
- part of the operating system, and prints
- \E\>anything\#\F directed to LPT1: in the high-
- quality mode. Even LLIST from BASIC and
- the PrtSc key print out in high-quality mode
- when \ENicePrint\F is installed.
-
- \ENicePrint\F supports \Eall\F of the ordinary
- printer commands, so any program that
- prints out correctly on the printer will
- print out the same way with \ENicePrint\F,
- except that it will print out in high
- quality. Nothing need be changed to get
- near-daisy-wheel printout from your printer.
-
- In addition to this, \ENicePrint\F has six
- font styles available: \x2default Roman, \x3Sans
- Serif, \x4Orator, \x5Script, \x6Olde English,\x2 and
- \x7Computer.\x2 \>Any \x3of these \x4fonts \x5may \x6be
- \x7italicized.\x2\# There are also six available
- pitches that each of the six font styles
- may use:
- Standard Pica (10-pitch)
- \!AStandard Elite (12-pitch)\!@
- \!DCondensed (17-pitch)\!@
- \!bExpanded Pica (5-pitch)\!@
- \!aExpanded Elite (6-pitch)\!@
- \!dExpanded Condensed (8-1/2 pitch)
- \!@
- \EFurthermore, the Enhanced mode is supported
- for all pitches.\F
-
- It is also possible to print\xB
- BIG letters(double height),\xN
- \S0SUPER-\Tand \S1SUB-\Tscripts with printer controls,
- and \-1underlining\-0 with printer controls.
-
- To use \ENicePrint\F, just boot DOS, put in
- the \ENicePrint\F disk, and type:
- A>\ENICE\F
- That's all. Now the printer behaves as if
- the \ENiceFonts\F were its native character set.
-
- To return to the native mode, type
- Ctrl-Alt-F1. This still leaves \ENicePrint\F
- loaded, so you may return to \ENicePrint\F
- by typing Ctrl-Alt-F2. Ctrl-Alt-F10 will
- cause a page eject in any of the modes.
-
- An additional feature is the Ctrl-Alt-\\,
- which causes the program to translate \\
- into <esc>, and \\\\ into \\, facilitating
- the embedding of printer commands in text.
- Ctrl-Alt-\\ mode works both in
- \ENicePrint\F mode and in native mode when
- \ENicePrint\F is resident.
-
- The remainder of the \ENicePrint\F
- manual explains how to use the multiple
- character sets and other features in
- detail, and gives several examples of what
- sorts of effects may be obtained.
